Vicki believes a good field training program is essential to effectively training personnel & thus building a staff of qualified & motivated corrections officers.

SARAH PAULSRUD, EAU CLAIRE COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT : VICE-DIRECTOR REGION 5

My name is Sarah Paulsrud. I was born and raised in Eau Claire, WI. After high school I attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where 1 majored in Criminal Justice.

During The fall semester of 1992, I studied abroad at Harlaxton College in Grantham, England. This was truly the experience of a lifetime! When I returned from England, I completed an internship with the Chippewa County Probation and Parole. This is the field I thought I wanted to pursue until I was hired on with the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s office 6 years ago.

I am a correctional officer for the Eau Claire County Jail and also a field training officer. I started training three years ago when the field training program was created in our department. I enjoy working as a field training officer because I seem to learn things that I had somehow forgotten or never knew

.Along with being an FTO, I served as the jail’s Forum representative for nearly 2 years. This voluntary position requires attending monthly meetings with the Sheriff and a member of each division of the Sheriffs Office. At these meetings, we discuss what is happening within the department, rumors, new positions, etc.

I also do orientations for new correctional officers. This involves tours, introductions, paper work, assigning of badges and keys, etc.

I was married in July, 2001. My husband is also a correctional officer and FTO for the Eau Claire County Jail. We have a lot in common and a lot to talk about at home. We have 2 kids and are planning on welcoming in a  doberman puppy in the near future. I love to travel and go to the gym.
